LARA

Ijolted awake, my head throbbing as I blinked against the harsh glare of lights. Where was I? The last thing I remembered was being overpowered by those reptilian Zorgax at the peacekeeper headquarters.

My heart raced as I took in my surroundings - a stark, metallic cell with no windows. Panic gripped me when I realized Eli wasn't by my side. "Eli? Eli!" I called out, my voice cracking with desperation.

The cell door slid open with a hiss, and that scarred Zorgax leader strode in, his scaled face twisted into a cruel smile that made my skin crawl. Krelox Zar. I instinctively shrank back, shielding my body.

"Looking for this?" he hissed, gripping Eli's small arm as he dragged my terrified nephew into view.

"Auntie Lara!" Eli cried, his big eyes brimming with tears. He clutched his worn stuffed rabbit tightly to his chest.

White-hot fury coursed through me at the sight of that monster manhandling my little boy. I leaped to my feet, every protective instinct raging. "Don't you dare touch him!"

Krelox laughed, a grating sound like nails on a chalkboard. "Or you'll what, human?" He tightened his grip on Eli, who whimpered in pain.

My fists clenched, nails digging into my palms hard enough to draw blood. I wanted to rip that smug grin off his reptilian face. But I knew losing control would only endanger Eli further.

Trembling with fury, I forced myself to take a steadying breath. Think, Lara. Keep it together, for Eli's sake. "What do you want from us?" I asked through gritted teeth.

"For the child to locate an ancient weapon," Krelox said, his slitted gaze boring into mine. "One capable of unimaginable power - enough to crush your pathetic planet into dust."

My stomach turned at the thought. Was he serious? How could Eli, my sweet little nephew, possibly know anything about alien weapons?

Krelox seemed to read the doubt on my face. With a flick of his tail, he shoved Eli towards me, the little boy stumbling into my arms. "You have one cycle to convince him," he growled. "Or I'll let my warriors have their way with you both."

I clutched Eli close, instinctively shielding him as the cell door slammed shut. Tears stung my eyes, but I blinked them back fiercely. No, I wouldn't give that sadistic monster the satisfaction of seeing me break.

Looking down at Eli's innocent, trusting face, my heart swelled with fierce, maternal love. No matter what horrors these aliens had in store, I would never let them harm a hair on his precious head.

"It'll be okay, baby," I whispered, cradling him against my chest. "Auntie Lara won't let anything bad happen to you, I promise." With a featherlight kiss to the top of his head, I breathed in his familiar, comforting scent, trying to will away the choking fear.

Somehow, I had to find the strength to protect my little nephew and get us out of this nightmare. Zaxon still had to be looking for us. A glimmer of desperate hope flickered in my chest.

Please, I prayed silently, tears slipping free at last.
